We Are Spiraling

You might think: curly hair, how much is there to say? A whole newsletter and a podcast dedicated to this? I don’t want to hear someone ramble about all their hair lotions and potions!

But there is so much to unravel. This is not just “get ready with me” in another format.

I’m an award-winning reporter who covered startups and the tech industry for more than a decade until about a year ago, when I started a new investigation: a startup of my own.

I’m building the curly hair care product line I’ve always wanted myself. And now I’m talking and writing about all things related to curly hair here and on my podcast.

I’ve approached every facet of both the business and this newsletter + podcast like a reporter. You’ll see that journey up close here.

As a tech reporter, I brought you the stories I thought were most worthwhile. I investigated companies that affected real people’s lives.

And I also brought you stories that looked past ephemeral funding rounds and at the complexity and absurdity of our world. For example, about people bringing live llamas to AI parties, the insanity of being a private chef in Silicon Valley, tech bros hiring stylists in an attempt to become hot, and a deep dive into why so many Asian Americans feel like a minority in tech.

Now you’ll hear what it’s like to start your own company after 12 years of writing about startups — and about all the ways curly hair influences our culture and the reverse.
